Web sites

The web sites listed below will help your child with their mathematical studies. There are a mixture of games, competitions and puzzles – all stimulating and full of mathematical content. Usually a single click on the link will take you to the web site.

You may need to download Flash 8 for some of the programs. This is free and will only have to be installed once.

Most of the sites listed allow you to make the work easier or more difficult. As a guide I have rated the site according to the National Curriculum Level. For example the Penalty Shoot Out game asks questions from NC level 2 to NC level 4.

The table below shows the approximate National Curriculum Levels that pupils attain according to their ability

In Year 5 an average pupil will be working between levels 3 and 4. More able pupils are working at level 5. Less able pupils are working at levels 1 and 2.

In Year 6 an average pupil will be working at level 4. More able pupils are working at level 5 or 6. Less able pupils are working at levels 1 and 2.

In Year 7 an average pupil will be working at between levels 4 and 5. More able pupils are working at level 6. Less able pupils are working at levels 2 and 3

In Year 8 an average pupil will be working at level 5. More able pupils are working at levels 6, 7 and 8. Less able pupils are working at levels 3 and 4.

Some games ask you what level you want to play on. These have NOTHING at all to do with National Curriculum Levels.

Please let me know at school if you have any problems.
